What does a school counselor do?

My job is to help foster the college/career, social, and emotional development of all scholars. I do this by providing a wide range of direct and indirect scholar services that are specifically designed to have a positive impact on scholar achievement, attendance, and behavior.

Classroom Lessons:
A range of career and social/emotional topics delivered on a rotating schedule to classrooms (the Second Step Curriculum)

Small Group Counseling:
A range of social/emotional topics delivered across a four to eight week span to a small group of scholars (3-6) in need of additional support.

Individual Counseling:
Delivered on an as-needed basis to scholars who need additional support for a range of issues. Scholars can ask to see me or be referred by school staff or families.

Lunch Visits:
Students can request to eat lunch in my office as a way to connect with me and other scholars in a smaller, casual setting.

SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Info:

  • What is PBIS?

  • Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is a schoolwide systems approach aimed at establishing positive student culture and individualized behavior supports necessary to create a safe and effective learning environment for all students

  • A key aspect of PBIS is focusing on more positive behaviors and less on negative behaviors. PBIS Rewards makes this fundamental step in PBIS much easier in a schoolwide support setting. With PBIS Rewards, teachers, administrators, and staff can all support student growth and development through acknowledgment of student successes with PBIS expectations
